Our Caring Staff

Patrick Stover has proudly served families at Pugh Funeral Home since December of 2012. He was born and raised in Clay County, West Virginia and moved to Asheboro in July of 2003. Patrick came to Randolph County originally to teach. He taught eleven years with Randolph County Schools, split between Ramseur Elementary and Providence Grove High School, and coached for ten years, split between Eastern Randolph High School and Providence Grove High School. When deciding to change careers, he received his funeral service degree through Fayetteville Technical Community College.  Patrick and his family attend West Asheboro Baptist Church in Asheboro where he is a member. Patrick married his wife Shelley in July of 2008, and they have two wonderful boys, Andrew and Keegan, their cat, Chip and the family dog, Hero. Patrick’s hobbies include going camping with his family, being outdoors hiking, fishing and splitting firewood, playing golf or anything with his boys. Patrick was named the general manager of the Pugh Funeral Home group in August of 2023. 

Gloria has always enjoyed helping others.  As a young girl, the Pugh Funeral Home Family was there to help her family during the untimely passing of loved ones.  Gloria has always remembered this generosity and comfort felt from the Pugh Family.  Gloria was a cosmetologist for 26 years.  At her daughter’s college graduation, Gloria was inspired to answer God’s calling to return to school to obtain her degree, as a Licensed Funeral Director to assist others in their time of need.   She began working for Pugh Funeral Home in 1998, where she is also a Certified Crematory Operator.  Gloria officially retired from Pugh Funeral Home in 2021 but continues to help at the funeral home and assist serving families in their time of need.  Gloria lives in Asheboro and is blessed to have her immediate family close to her as well.  She has two children, three grandchildren and one great grandson.

Steve started his career with Pugh Funeral Home and the Pugh family in 1970 while in high school, working weekends and summer.  After serving his apprenticeship, he entered and graduated mortuary school in Fayetteville NC.  Steve became licensed as a Funeral Service Licensee in 1976.  Things changed and he left the funeral business in 1979 and worked in the chemical industry for 40 years and retired from the same company , Ashland Chemical Company.  Having kept his mortuary license up to date each year with the state, Steve was asked and gladly accepted the opportunity to come back to Pugh Funeral Home and work as needed.  The greatest accomplishment made is when the family says thank you during these difficult times.

Steve has been married to his best friend Christi for the past 38 years and they have one son Ben who along with his wife Allison have their only grandson Asher.  Ben and his family live in New Bern where we spend much of our down time.

Korey was born and raised in Asheboro, NC. She is the youngest of three children and a graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School. She has been serving the community of Randolph County at Pugh Funeral Home since January of 2017, originally working as Transfer Team Member and Funeral Assistant, later becoming a Funeral Service Apprentice. Korey earned her associate degree in Funeral Service from Fayetteville Technical Community College and became licensed as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in October of 2021. She is married to the absolute love of her life, her “Besty”, and together they are raising their wonderful daughter. Korey is an avid runner and all-around movement enthusiast, often coupling her enjoyment of exercise with her love for the natural world and being outdoors. As a Funeral Director, she is passionate about empowering families to honor their loved ones in unique and personalized ways. She believes in the importance of being presented with options when faced with loss, and she is fervently committed to helping the members of her community during their greatest time of need. 

Seth has proudly been an employee of Pugh Funeral Home since May of 2017 and is currently serving at the location manager of Pugh Funeral Home-Randleman. Seth is a Randolph County native and a 2017 graduate of Randleman High School. Upon graduating, Seth attended Appalachian State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in 2021 with concentrations in management and entrepreneurship. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he attended Fayetteville Technical Community College, receiving a degree in Funeral Service Education in 2023. He is a Funeral Service Licensee and Certified Crematory Operator. Seth is a lifelong member of New Hope Community Church and is a member of the Asheboro Kiwanis Club as well as a member of the Educational Advisory Board for the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association. In his free time, Seth enjoys kayaking, visiting the mountains, and spending time with family and friends. 

Sandy was born and raised in Randolph County and graduated from Randleman High School.  Before coming to work at Pugh Funeral Home she was employed with Walker Shoe Company in the Personnel Department.  She has worked in the office at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro for 35+ years and has helped numerous families through the years.  Sandy is married with two children and two special grandchildren. Sandy and her husband Chester enjoy spending their weekends camping with friends and family.

Tammy is a native of Randolph County. She is married with 2 children and currently lives in Seagrove.  Tammy has been employed with Pugh Funeral Home for 9 years.

JJ Moore is a Licensed Funeral Director, a 2009 graduate of Fayetteville Technical Community College in their Funeral Service program. He is a resident of Robbins in the Spies Community in Moore County. He is happily married to wife Jo Ann for over 50 years. They have 3 children, 3 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren. He is member of Brown’s Chapel Christian Church in Robbins, where he serves as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Cemetery Director. JJ is also a Mason, at Elise Lodge #555 in Robbins, where he is the treasurer. He also is a Charter Member of Northern Moore Lions Club in Robbins. JJ also is well known for being on radio stations, JoyFM, WYTR, WCSE, and WGWR. He has also been a licensed Insurance agent since 1976. He feels his job as a Preneed Funeral Director is to help families plan for their funeral with peace of mind and eliminate the worry of how they are going to pay for those expenses. In his free time, he loves to spend time with his family, and travel.

Julie joined the Pugh Funeral Home family in May of 2023. Born in Shasta County, California and raised in Rogers County, Oklahoma, she moved to Asheboro in January of 2021 after 17 years in Las Vegas, NV. She enjoys reading, watching fantasy and sci-fi movies, cooking for her family, and snuggling with her cat and dogs, Waylon, Jack, Boots, and Lucky.

Ella was born and raised in Asheboro and graduated from Asheboro High School in 1963 and High Point University in 1967 with a BA degree in English. She taught at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte until 1971 when she moved to Washington, DC and worked on Capitol Hill until 1975 where she met her late husband Joseph Pozell, who died in 2005.  Their son Joseph was born in 1978 and now lives near Boone, NC.

In 1984 Joe and Ella began managing Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown Washington, DC where she stayed until 2012 retiring and moving back to Asheboro.    In Washington, Ella worked part-time at DeVol Funeral Home.  She is a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and of the Col. Andrew Balfour Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution where she now serves as Recording Secretary.

Born and raised in Chicago. Illinois, moved to North Carolina and finished school at Asheboro High School in 1977. Attended Davidson County Community College and studied Law Enforcement. Barry is retired from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office after 32 years holding the rank of Major. He joined the Pugh Family as a part-time funeral attendant and later obtained his license as a certified crematory operator. Barry joined our staff full-time in 2021 as an apprentice director where he is finishing his classes at Fayetteville Technical College in Funeral Directing. He is presently our Crematory Manager. He is single involved in community affairs as a member of the Randolph County Planning Board and is of the Baptist faith. He currently resides in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Marcus grew up south of Charlotte, but his family roots come from Trinity.  His grandfather was pulled away from the Trinity area by a call to pastor, and his father moved to the Charlotte area by the same call to the ministry.  Marcus worked in home construction for 10 years and found himself pastoring as well but after 15 years in the ministry, he felt it was time to change.  Marcus found himself at Pugh Funeral Home, still caring for families but facing new challenges and opportunities.  He is married with two beautiful children, and a third on the way.  Marcus enjoys mud runs, game nights, and reading fiction.  He plans to be fully licensed in Funeral Service by the fall of 2024.

Brad was born and raised in King NC. Brad proudly served with the Sauratown Fire Department for 12 years before moving to Belews Creek in Forsyth County and marrying the love of his life, Jennifer. In 2011 he made his move to Randolph County to live in the Trinity area. Brad has two beautiful little girls, Charlotte and Caroline. Before joining Pugh Funeral Home, Brad was a 9-1-1 dispatcher and hostage and crisis negotiator with the town of Kernersville Police Dept. for 13 years. Brad joined Pugh Funeral Home in 2021. Brad is currently enrolled at Fayetteville Community College to become a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 2024. Brad is an avid member at East Side Baptist Church where he serves in many different rolls and positions. Brad loves hunting and fishing and going camping with his wife and kids. 

Joanne moved to North Carolina in 1989 after working in New York in the broadcasting and film industry.  Her husband had attended UNCG and always loved North Carolina and once their first daughter was born, decided to make the move.  Joanne spent 81/2 years working as a Field Executive for the Tarheel Triad Girl Scout Council. A career move landed her as a sales representative for Innisbrook Wraps for 17 years helping area schools and community groups raise the funds they needed for programs and events.  In 2019, Joanne was offered a position to join the Pugh Funeral Home family as Marketing Manager.  Once again, an opportunity to use her marketing skills while setting up local community events for all 5 funeral homes.  Joanne and her husband have 2 daughters.  In their free time, they  enjoy traveling, attending sporting events – especially baseball games as well as entertaining family and friends.

Ed is a lifelong resident of Asheboro. He worked locally in the banking industry for over 40 years where he enjoyed helping the residents of Asheboro and Randolph County. Working with visitations at Pugh Funeral home for the past several years give him the opportunity to continue assisting the community. Ed and his wife, Sherree, enjoy their neighborhood and spending time with friends and family. He has two daughters and four grandchildren. 

Pam was born and raised in Randleman. She graduated from Randleman High School and attended Asheboro Commercial College. She worked in an Optometrist office before coming to work at Pugh Funeral Home as a funeral assistant in 2018. Pam’s hobbies are antiquing, spending time with friends, and her family comes first. She enjoys her church family and likes working and helping people in a time of need. 

Shea grew up here in Asheboro.  She is a graduate of Asheboro High School, and then went on to Appalachian State University to study Recreation Management.  After school, she came back home and got married and has two wonderful boys. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Asheboro, where Shea serves as an Elder.  She is currently studying Funeral Service Education through Fayetteville Technical Community College and has work with Pugh Funeral Home since 2022.  

Steve is a native of Randolph County. He graduated from Asheboro High School, Wingate College and Appalachian State University with a degree in Business Administration.  Steve worked thirty one years with North Carolina Probation and Parole and retired as Chief. He has been a member of Asheboro Kiwanis for 31 years and is also a member of The First E and R United Church of Christ and serve in the consistory. Steve enjoys walking, running and working out at the YMCA. Steve has worked part time for Pugh Funeral Home for twenty years.

Monroe is a lifelong resident of Asheboro. He graduated from Asheboro High School and played high school baseball, legion baseball, and softball for several years. Monroe proudly served our country in the United States Navy and is a Vietnam Veteran. He is married to his wife Patsy and is a proud father and Papa. Monroe worked and retired from Prevo Drug. He enjoys playing golf and is a member at Balfour Baptist Church.  

Belinda was born at Camp Lejune and has lived in Randolph County for most of her life. Belinda has been with commercial and residential cleaning for the past 22 years and started working with Pugh Funeral Home in June of 2018. Prior to working at Pugh’s, Belinda also worked at Goodyear for 18 ½ years and as an EMT/CNA for 4 years. She married her husband Clint in 1988 and they have two boys, Adam H. and Adam L. and their daughter, Hanna who passed away from ALS in October of 2017. Belinda has four grandchildren that she loves dearly, Kamden, Luke, Callie, and Carly. When Belinda is not working, she enjoys helping elderly folks and being involved in activities with her church, First Baptist Church in Randleman. 

Kathy Allen was born and raised in Staley, North Carolina where she is a proud graduate of Eastern Randolph High School.  She continued her education at Jefferson College in Greensboro where she became a graduate.  

For eleven years she worked at Belk Yates.  Her career continued as she accepted work with Randolph County Social Services, where she worked for 11 years.  Her life led her to a new position with Randolph County Schools where she remained for 16 years.  Kathy retired from this position in 2020.  

Outside of business and education, Kathy is a wife, mother, and friend.  She is married to Mike Allen and completing their family they share a son, Brandon Allen and stepdaughter, Adrienne Tolbert.  She attends Foster Street Wesley Church.  Besides being with her family, Kathy loves to travel, lay by the ocean and shopping.  A great lover of dogs, Kathy has two dogs of her own and one grand dog.    

Kathy has worked for Pugh Funeral Home since 2019.  Her genuine concern and care for people allows her to work well with them in their time of need.  

Debbie started working with Pugh Funeral Home as a funeral assistant in 2023. She has lived in Randleman her entire life. Her hobbies include reading, sewing, and playing dominoes with her friends. She is very active in her church, Mt. Lebanon United Methodist, and with her family. Debbie’s goal is to be the best she can in all that she does. 

Tammy Brady is a lifelong resident of Randolph County. She graduated from Southwest Randolph High School and also graduated from Randolph Community College with a degree in Business Administration.  Tammy is a member of Seagrove Christian Church were she serves as the Assistant Treasurer. She recently retired after a thirty year career in the utility industry. Tammy loves spending time with her family and especially her new granddaughter. She also enjoys spending time with friends, shopping, trips to the beach and her dog. Tammy is very sympathetic to families in the loss of their loved ones and understands what a difficult time this is for the family. 

James was born and raised in Asheboro, North Carolina. He attended Randolph Early College High School as the inaugural class. He then went on to earn his Bachelors of Pastoral Ministry from John Wesley College. James worked with the maintenance department on various weekends while in High School and College. James spent eight years as a Pastor in the state of Georgia, where he met his wife, Allie. James is the Lead Pastor of Hopewell Friends Meeting. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and his three daughters. Lilly, Nakita and Laney. 

Melanie, a native of Ohio, moved to Troy in 1981. She met and married her husband Steve and they have been married for 38 years. They enjoy traveling to new places when time allows and enjoy both the beach and the mountains. Melanie is the mother of daughter Keri and the “Nannie” to grandchildren, Trey, Ajay, Kayci, and Ivey, who keep her life very busy. They are members of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Melanie owned and operated Melanie’s Bridal and Formal for nearly 20 years. After closing her bridal shop, the opportunity arose to come to work at Pugh Funeral Home. Having lost her daughter Cori, at the young age of eleven in 1989, Melanie believes God opened this door for her to be able to help others as they deal with their loss during this difficult time. 

Jim has been with Pugh Troy Funeral Home since 1998 after spending 30 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He resides in Mt. Gilead, his hometown. He is married to the former Sandra Reynolds (55 years) and they have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. He has degrees from West Montgomery High School, Wingate Jr. College, and Appalachian State University (where he was the mascot… “Yosef” his senior years) and UNC-Charlotte. He is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead. Jim has been an active member of the Gideon’s International for 30 years. He is a retired Boy Scout leader and received the “Silver Beaver Award” and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. Jim’s hobbies include collecting wooden baseball bats, NC soft drink bottles, NC city license plates, and loves to travel. 

Doug was born December 8, 1943 in Troy, NC, the son of Howard and Daisy Byrd of Mt. Gilead. He grew up in Mt. Gilead and attended elementary and high school thru the 11th grade at Mt. Gilead High School. He graduated from West Montgomery High School in 1962. Doug is married to Brenda Vuncannon, his high school sweetheart in 1962. They have two children, Douglas M. Byrd, Jr. (Mark) and Michael Byrd, both of Troy. Doug was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He is a member of Love Joy Church in Troy. Doug is also an active member of the Montgomery County Gideon Camp for 33 years. Doug came to work at Pugh Troy Funeral Home in March of 2005. 

Charles was born and raised in Ohio. He graduated from high school in 1967 and came to North Carolina for college. While in college he met his wife to be. They were married in 1969. They were married for 50 years before she passed away in 2018. He proudly served in the United States Army for 11 years. Charles worked for Winn Dixie as a store manager until they shut down in North Carolina. He then worked for Standard Packaging in Mt. Gilead and as a salesman for City Electric Supply for 23 years. He is now retired and enjoying his retirement. Charles said he has enjoyed being a funeral assistant for Pugh Troy Funeral Home and that is the most rewarding job he has ever done.  

Wally was born and raised in Troy NC and graduated from West Montgomery High School in 1982.  He began his career in Law Enforcement and retired from the NC Department of Justice, with 30 years of service.  He has been married to Debbie Bowers Lemons for 16 years.  They have 2 grandchildren, Makailyn who is 13 years old and Johnny who is 5 years old.  They enjoy camping and fishing.  Wally likes meeting new people and working with the public. Wally has been working with Pugh Troy Funeral Home since October of 2021. 

David was born and raised in Lumberton, NC. He graduated from Fayetteville State University in 2006 with a Fire Associate Degree. He worked as a Lieutenant for many years, retiring from Pearces Mill Fire Department in Fayetteville, NC. He married his wife Kelly, his best friend, in 2019. They live in Mt. Gilead, NC and attend Twin Harbor Worship Center where they are very active. They have a four-legged daughter “Stella”. In his spare time, David enjoys spending time and spoiling their grandchildren. He looks forward to serving Pugh Troy Funeral Home and working with their amazing team.  David joined the Pugh Troy Funeral Home staff in 2023. 

Rod was born on September 16, 1959 in Northridge, CA. He got saved at the age of 8 and his family moved to Waynesville in Haywood County in August of 1973. He graduated from Tuscola High School in 1977 and from A-B Tech in Asheville, NC in June of 1985. Rod served as a volunteer fire fighter for 15 years. He moved to Asheboro in 1990 and married his best friend, Bonnie, on January 1, 1994. He then went to work at Southern Correction in Troy on April 21, 1996 and retired from there on March 30, 2016. Rod started driving school buses in Montgomery County from 2016-2019 and in Moore County from 2019-2023. Rod and his wife Bonnie joined Troy First Baptist Church in January of 1997 and he sings in the church choir. Rod volunteered for 12 years with the American Red Cross answering fire calls and helped with Relay for Life for 20 years. Rod also enjoys helping with the Troy First Baptist Food Bank and building ramps for those in need. Rod joined the Pugh Troy Funeral Home staff in 2023.

Jim Pendell began his career with Pugh Funeral Homes and New Hope Memorial Gardens in March of 2005. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and spent his childhood years in and around that area. Upon graduation from Era Christian Academy in 1985 he came to Randleman NC to follow his heart, and in September of 1986 he married Tonya Ferguson. Together they have two children, a daughter Natalie, and son James. Their granddaughters are the joy of his life. Jim enjoys family time, collecting Craftsman tools and cooking BBQ. Jim and Tonya attend Back Creek Friends Meeting. You may find Jim at one our locations making improvements or in a cemetery opening or closing a grave.
