Patsy Deaton Maness, age 78, of 317 S. Lineberry Street, Troy, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Maness was born March 2, 1933 at Troy, NC, the daughter of Ernest and Madie Sanders Deaton. Mrs. Maness was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Troy where she was a member of the adult choir. For many years she was co-owner of Montgomery Garbage Service, Inc., County Wide Waste Service and Burgess-Maness Industrial Waste. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William H. "Bill" Maness, two brothers, Ernest Deaton, Jr. and Dwight Deaton. Patsy was involved in many community organizations. She was a former Girl Scout leader for several years, former president of Troy Music Club, former president of Troy Mothers' Club, a member of the Tuesday Night Bridge Club, a member of the Thursday Bridge Club and a former substitute school teacher. She was a faithful supporter of Montgomery Community College also. She is survived by two sons: Woody Maness and wife, Barbara of Mt. Gilead, Billy Maness and wife, Carla of Troy; one sister: Viva Jones of Apex; two grandchildren: Roston Maness and Brittany Maness, both of Troy; 1 step-granddaughter: Kathy Shields of Midland, GA; two step-great-grandchildren: Gabe Stevens and Rian Shields, both of Midland, GA; two sisters-in-law: Katie K. Deaton and Nell Deaton, both of Troy. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy, NC; other times at the home. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell Street, Troy with Rev. Kelly Sorg and Rev. Perry Hines officiating. Burial will follow in First Wesleyan Church Cemetery, 1368 NC Hwy 134 N, Troy, NC. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell Street, Troy, NC 27371.
