Nellie Merritt Dennis

Mrs. Nellie Merritt Dennis, age 97, of 3133 NC Hwy 109N, Troy died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Dennis was born March 20, 1914 in Albemarle, NC, the daughter of John Wesley Merritt and Lena Simmons Dennis. Although born in Albemarle, Mrs. Dennis lived the majority of her life in Montgomery County. She was a member of White Crest Baptist Church where she was the church pianist for many years. She was a former employee of Troy Drapery Corporation. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jones Taft "Tebe" Dennis. She is survived by three daughters: Ruth Morris Dennis and Carol Mullinix, both of Troy, Elizabeth Furr and husband, Bob of Albemarle; two sons: Mickey Dennis and wife, Opal of Troy, Larry Dennis and wife, Annette also of Troy; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Bradley Dennis of Troy. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the residence. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at White Crest Baptist Church, 1051 River Road, Mt. Gilead with Rev. Danny Laws and Rev. Ken McRae officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
