Dorothy Boney Garriss, age 96, of 683 Biscoe Road, Troy died Friday, March 18, 2011 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Mrs. Garriss was born March 15, 1915 in Burgaw, NC the daughter of the late B. Clarence and the late Bertha C. Thompson Boney. She was a graduate of Campbell University, majoring in education. She taught school in Graham, Greensboro and various schools in Montgomery County. She was a charter member of the Troy Womans Club and member of the Troy Mothers Club. She was a member of Circle #1 Women's Missionary Society, Senior Citizens Group and the Fidelis Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church where she was an active member. She was also a member of the Tuesday Night Bridge Club and a guest at the Thursday Afternoon Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin M. Garriss, her son, Austin McDonald Garriss, Jr. and granddaughter, Wendy Lynn Nelms. She is survived by her daughter, Lorene Garriss Hafer and husband John J. Hafer, Jr. of Frostburg, MD; grandchildren: Mary Garriss Gilmore and husband, Michael E. of Matthews, Douglas Austin Garriss of Hawaii and David McDonald Garriss of Raleigh, John Dorsey Nelms of Aiken SC; great grandson: Trent Landon Garriss of Clayton; daughter in-law, Jean Peedin of Raleigh. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 1:00 pm - 1:45pm at First Baptist Church of Troy. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 pm at First Baptist Church with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
