Rufus Marion Owen

Rufus Marion Owen, age 85, of 4151 NC Hwy 109N, Troy died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at his home.Mr. Owen was born January 4, 1924 in Transylvania County, NC, the son of Spurgeon and Rosa (McCall) Owen.Mr. Owen served as a Marine during World War II in the South Pacific, Iwo Jima and China. He was a member of Eldorado Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board. He had an Associate Degree in Forestry and Agriculture. He was an employee of the US Forest Service and retired after 30 years of service. He was a 4-H Club leader for 30 years. He was a charter member of the West Montgomery Lions Club and also a charter member of the Montgomery County Gideon Camp. His life's devotion was to God, his family and country.He is survived by his wife: Marion Kilpatrick Owen of the home; four daughters: Margaret O. Sanders, Melinda O. Cagle, Telena O. Gooch, all of Troy, NC, Teresa Baker of Denton, NC; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 - 2:00PM at Eldorado Baptist Church, N.C. Hwy 109N, Troy. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 pm at Eldorado Baptist Church with Rev. Toney Parsons, Rev. Jessie Clubb and Rev. Jim Hunsucker officiating. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Mac McCall Cemetery, Lake Toxaway, NC, Sunday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Rex Galloway officiating.
