Obituary of Paul Monroe Gordon

Paul Monroe Gordon, age 93, of Troy passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at his home. Paul was born August 22, 1927 in Middleport Ohio, the son of the late Paul Monroe Gordon and the late Candice Swisher Gordon. Paul was married to his wife Rebecca "Becky" Burns Gordon for over 65 years. He is survived by one sister: Juanita Clark of Belvue Ohio. He was preceded in death by sister Naomi Day and brother John Richard Gordon. Paul retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant having served in the Korean War & Vietnam Conflict. He then worked as a carpenter for many years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and was an essential part of the church Brotherhood. Paul was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Paul's wife, Rebecca "Becky" Frances Burns Gordon, age 97 of Troy passed away one week later than Paul on Friday, November 27, 2020 at FirstHealth Hospice Palliative Care in West End, NC. Becky was born September 15, 1923 in Montgomery County, NC to the late Joseph Carl Burns, Sr., and the late Mamie Lomax Burns. Becky was a homemaker and active in various aspects of her community. Becky was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher of many "little ones" through the years. She was also active in the WMU. Becky was preceded in death by her husband Paul; her siblings: Aileen Brown, Ilda Thompson, Rachel Harvell, Wanda Hamilton and J.C. "Bud" Burns, Jr. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Both Paul and Becky enjoyed traveling and camping with their family. They were avid gardeners. Both were active in missionary work in the Caribbean and South America. They very much loved and cared for all of their family. They will be missed in the community and also by the friends they made at Hardees and Walmart. The family will receive friends Friday, December 4, 2020 from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 819 Mt. Carmel Church Rd., Troy, NC. The Homegoing and Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Rodney Holmes and the Rev. Tom Vannoy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County and the Uwharries, 960 N.
