Pothiner Clarenza Simmons

Pothiner Clarenza Young Simmons, age 92, of Troy passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Ms. Simmons was born July 9, 1927 in Troy, NC the daughter of the late Ward Franklin Young, Sr. and the late Ada Shaw. She retired from Forest Hosiery as a Machine Operator for 15 years. Ms. Simmons was a loving, caring, woman of God. She was a loving mother and grandmother, being a mother not only to her own children, but to many of her grand children and neighborhood children. She had a green thumb when it came to any gardening, especially her flower gardens. She is survived by four daughters: Donna Smith (Curtis) of Troy, NC, Clara Green of Candor, NC, Brenda Crouch of Norman, NC and Daisy Williams (Harold) of Drakes Branch; three sons: Jesse James Simmons (Mary) of Randleman, NC, Williams Simmons, Sr. (Priscilla) of Mt Gilead, NC and Ward Simmons, Sr of Troy, NC; special Grandson: Donald Simmons of Troy, NC; sisters: Willamae Robinson of Ellerbe, NC, Geneva Leak of Troy, NC and Ada Capel of Biscoe, NC; brothers: Ward Young, Jr of Charlotte, NC, John Henry Young (Sarah) of High Point, NC, Paul Young of High Point, NC and Troy Young (Veronica) of High Point, NC; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons: Jerry Simmons, Vernon Simmons, T.C. Bowden, Jr., and Larry Simmons and daughter, Hazel Bennett. Ms. Simmons will lie in state at Pugh Troy Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Friday, May 8, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with limitations due to regulations of the COVID 19. Burial will be in Freeman Hill Cemetery, Troy, NC. following the service.
