Mary Alice Smith Vanhoy, age 96, of Troy died Saturday, February 22, 2020 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Mrs. Vanhoy was born February 17, 1924 at Pinehurst, NC the daughter of the late Pleasant Haywood Smith and the late Janie (Monroe) Smith. She graduated from West End High School, West End, NC and went on to obtain her Degree in Registered Nursing. She worked in the medical field for 30 years, retiring from Randolph Hospital.
Mrs. Vanhoy was a lifelong member of Bensalem Evangelical Presbyterian Church and attended Troy Presbyterian Church. She was proud of the fact that she never missed a Monroe family reunion held at Bensalem Church. She was active in Eastern Star, the Uwharrie Fire Department and enjoyed attending the meals held at the Senior Center, where she contributed many crafts. She loved making afghans, doing needle point, tatting, and cooking.
She is survived by niece Dawn Covington (Warren); great nephews: Britt Covington and Kurt Covington; great niece: Amanda Covington (Jesse Eggen). She was predeceased by husband Max Vanhoy and sister Bonnie Britt.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM at Troy Presbyterian Church, 202 E. Main St., Troy, NC. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Steve Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Bensalem Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 2891 Bensalem Church Rd., Eagle Springs, NC.
