Geraldine Hyacinth Coble Thompson of Troy, NC passed away January 13th 2020 at FirstHealth Hospice House in West End, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilburn Anthony Thompson, her father, Walter Franklin Coble and mother Minnie Belle Thomas Coble.
She is survived by her only child, Timothy W. Thompson and wife Tina H. of Troy. Grandchildren, Tova T. Tildsley and husband Michael; Tavia T. Housley and husband Derrick. One great-grandchild, Rylen J. Housley.
She worked at Gilead Manufacturing in Mount Gilead for over 27 years. During the time she worked there Geraldine earned her Cosmetology License and was a Beautician during the afternoons and weekends for many years. She continued her Cosmetology training and was eventually licensed to teach Cosmetology.
Upon leaving Gilead Manufacturing, she went to work for the State of North Carolina at Stonewall Jackson Training School in Concord. While working there she enrolled at Shaw University in Raleigh, working full-time during the day at Concord and going to school full-time at night in Raleigh, earning a Bachelors’ Degree in Education, all the time while living in Biscoe, NC. She was very proud of the fact that she was on the Dean’s List every semester during her course of study, graduating with Honors.
With her Bachelor’s Degree she was able to transfer to Samarcand Manor in Jackson Springs, NC as a Vocational Teacher where she worked until her retirement in 1997.
Visitation will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy, NC on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020 from 6 PM until 8 PM. There will be a private graveside service at the Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle, NC.
