Obituary of Verdon Ray Batten
Verdon Ray Batten, age 88, of Candor passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Mr. Batten was born November 13, 1930 in Franklinville, NC, the son of the late David Turner Batten and the late Nannie S. Green Batten. He served in the Navy during the Korean war. Upon returning home, he was employed as an auto mechanic. Verdon enjoyed painting pictures and making model airplanes to fly, traveling to the mountains, and fishing. He loved his family and his church family.
He is survived by his wife: Caroline Spivey Batten; son: Rodney Batten (Nancy) of Pinehurst, NC; step-son's: Richard Batten of Troy, NC and Phillip Batten (Brenda), of Troy, NC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Joe Batten, and step-daughter, Brenda Sifers.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM at Dover Baptist Church, 2527 Dover Church Rd., Seagrove, NC 27341. The funeral will follow at 3:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Bouldin officiating. Burial will be in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove, with Military Rites.
