Richard Frank Batten, age 70, of Troy passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Mr. Batten was born November 27, 1950 the son of the late Lacy Frank Batten and Caroline Spivey Batten. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was self-employed as a truck and sign painter. Richard was a VFW Post Commander in Troy. He was instrumental in helping to get a VA Officer for Montgomery County. He volunteered his time to put flags out for the Veteran's graves in the County. He took many vets to the VA for their appointments and helped many community members knowingly and unknowingly. He was a proud member and Deacon of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Troy, NC. He is survived by his mother: Caroline Spivey Batten of Troy, NC; brother: Phillip Batten (Brenda) of Troy, NC; step-brother: Rodney Batten (Nancy); four nieces and one nephew; five great nephews, two great nieces, and one great-great nephew. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister: Brenda Batten Sifers and step-father: Verdon R. Batten. A Memorial Service be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 1569 Candor-Troy Rd., Candor, NC, with Pastor Todd Roseman officiating, followed by Military Rites provided by the N.C.
